Discovery Center

The US Green Building Council has awarded Poly Prep Lower School, including the playground, a LEED Silver rating, making it the first school building in New York City to be certified.

 

A new addition for the Poly Prep Lower School’s landmarked building on Prospect Park West was developed by Platt Byard Dovell White Architects. The landscape design challenge was to incorporate the children’s outdoor play space within the building’s new entrance. Billie Cohen ltd.’s plan integrated a main entry gate and accessible bluestone walkway with activity areas that include a mulched space with play tower and play house, boulders for imaginary play, as well as a central meeting space that contain sculptural interactive elements, furniture, and play apparatus on safety tiles. Custom climbing boxes, bridges, ladders, storage and a puppet theatre will be added.
